The Good Sit: Q&A with Mr. Jason Grant

The Good Sit is our new Q&A series featuring regular people with a regular practice. We created this series to show the many different forms a meditation practice can take, and to inspire you to kick off a practice of your own! This is the very first edition of The Good Sit, featuring my pal, the talented interior stylist and author Mr. Jason Grant. 

When do you get sit done? 
First thing – wake, walk Sophia (my Boston terrier), meditate, caffeinate. And mid-afternoon (ideally) on a good day

How often do you sit? (How many times a week?)
20 minutes (ideally) twice a day (ideally).

How long do you sit?
Ideally 20 minutes but sometimes short super sessions – I also LOVE to meditate on planes.

What kind of meditation is your jam?
Vedic I learned from @thebroadplace but also I find other things “meditative” walking my dog ( we both also enjoy a good “vague out” swimming in the ocean or generally time in nature I also enjoy focusing on one single task ( painting, drawing or anything creative, dancing) sometimes I listen to guided meditations or do a quick power meditation on the go

Where do you sit?
On my sofa with my dog, she’s a companion meditator – my home is my sanctuary, my creative space, my hideaway where I get to express myself

What’s your meditation manifesto?
It’s my secret weapon it increases my clarity and creativity and eases any anxiety.

Hot tips?
MEDITATE DO IT!

Hardships?
Just like in like attempting perfection isn’t reality, I love to embrace the beauty in imprecation (that’s were the real beauty is) and this also applies to my practice

Highlights?
Learning to meditate is one of the single best things I ever did even better that I learned from a good friend. 

My Meditation miracle is..
Meditation really gets me through life’s ups and downs, as an in-demand interior designer/stylist my days can be action-packed and hectic, meditation keeps me mindful that productive is better than busy and I am my own resource, so it’s important to provide fuel/care for myself.
