Sometimes we get confused by emptiness. We think it’s a waiting room. That we’re just on our way somewhere else. That emptiness and quiet are somehow devoid of their own value.
THE VOID IS NOT DEVOID
But here’s the thing. The void is not devoid of meaning and richness. The void is an invitation into the energy of withdrawal, of rest, of emptying out. A valuable phase to be honored and embraced.
So if you’re feeling frustrated or uncertain or confused or overwhelmed, that is perfect. Embrace it. As Paul Goodman put it, “confusion is the state of promise, the fertile void where surprise is possible again.”
RIDE THE ENERGY OF EMPTINESS
When you don’t know what comes next but you know you’re done with the way things are, when you’re in the void, sitting with the emptiness, ride that energy!
Shed, shake, slip out of a skin, say no, say goodbye, scrub away, slough, scrap, separate, strikeout and slash away what no longer serves.
Audit and edit your space, your life, your closet, your thoughts, your habits, your relationships, commitments that just ain’t your jam anymore. Cut the shit. Carve out space. Consciously say no. Start nothing new.
Dive into the fertile void. The emptiness and spaciousness of creative potential. Trust that what’s coming is coming. Trust the presiding, orchestrating, universal cadence of life/death/life. For now, kick it in the void.
STOP CALLING IT A WAITING ROOM & START SEEING IT AS SACRED SPACE
Stop calling it a waiting room and start seeing it as a sacred space for rest and reflection. Surrender to the state of promise, sit with trust and a willingness to be surprised. It’s all coming. It’s all happening. New life is on its way. But first…the fertile void. Don’t wait. Be with it.
