Your phone is frontin'

Your phone is frontin'

Nothing good can come of you checking your phone first thing. Nothing.

Think about it. When was the last time you cracked into your phone first thing in the morning and felt super jazzed about what you saw? Like, “FUCK YES! THAT IS GREAT NEWS. I am feeling GOOD about myself! Today is going to be AWESOMESAUCE.” Probably never.

Dude, when you pick up your phone first thing, you don’t even give yourself a fighting chance at a good day.

The truth is, nothing derails a good day faster than a premature procession of stressful work-related emails, a parade of negative news, or a dose of social media induced self-doubt. I know it’s hard to resist. Because your devices and apps have been designed very purposefully (I repeat, DESIGNED. ON PURPOSE.) to hook your attention and, well, make you a fiend for your phone.

But your phone is frontin’. It’s not all that. All the stories it tells you about URGENT! and IMPORTANT! aren’t really true. If things are really urgent, people will probably call. If things are really important, you probably already know about them. In reality, your emails, messages and newsfeed can wait 15 minutes. (If not, then you need to either re-evaluate your life or get your ass out of bed a bit earlier. Tough love, boo.)

So the choice is yours. You can choose to roll over, reach for your phone and “accidentally” step into the powerful slipstream of anxiety, fear, worry, conflict and FOMO first thing. To allow your day and your vibe to be unintentionally dictated by the storm of input, information and opinions thundering your way.

Or you can start your day on purpose and perspective. And for that, I recommend meditation.

Meditation is how you become established in yourself. You  rise above the content and the circumstances. You establish yourself in the calm and stable centre of sovereignty and set out into your day with solid footing, a map of self-awareness, and a compass with the needle pointing towards your intentions.

And when the time comes for you to get your scroll on or click into your inbox, you’ll find that you aren’t easily triggered, or pushed and pulled by whatever comes your way.

It’s going to take some self-control. But you can do it. Make it an experiment. Check yourself before you wreck yourself...I mean, before you check your phone.

Meditate before you check your phone for 7 days and see what happens. Spoiler: Your days (and your mood) unfold differently.

P.S. T he Morning Ritual is here! Start fresh with this guide and day planner. It's the secret to good mornings and better days. :) x
