Are the most important things in your life getting leftovers? Are the people and passions in your life that matter most to you being treated as an afterthought?
Do you choose to scrub your toilet or fold towels instead of building cubby houses with your kids?
Do you work so much and so hard that you have no time or energy to give your loved ones at the end of the day? Do you tell yourself you’re too busy with work to take a holiday with your family or go to your best friend’s wedding?
Do you give most of your attention to the customer who complains— or to the customer who is loyal and devoted? Did you have time to post on Instagram but felt you were too busy to text back your best friend?
Do you run out of time to meditate in the morning because you woke up and scrolled through your socials first thing? Do you sit down with a clear mind and fresh ideas, but then clear your inbox, pay some bills and do a bit of online shopping instead of writing that story that’s waiting inside of you?
Do you watch TV instead of throwing down a drop cloth and pulling out your pallet and paintbrushes? Do you stare into your screen at night, scrolling through photos of people you don’t know instead of looking into the eyes of someone who matters deeply?
Your attention, time, and energy are currency. Where are you spending them? Where are you investing your most precious resources?
Ask yourself what matters most to you. And then consider this: are your actions moving you toward or away from what (or who) matters most?
